If you are looking at beds for your child and the toughest decision you are facing is whether to go with the pink Barbie bed or the Princess Jasmine with a canopy, you may be focusing on the least important aspect of choosing a bed. Your child will spend well over a third of his or her time on this bed. There are some very important things to consider when choosing the right bed for your child, and your favorite cartoon character is the least of them.
1.The child’s age and size should be first on your list.If you are purchasing a first bed for a toddler who is close to graduating from a crib to a ‘real bed’, you have several choices of size and style. Toddler beds can be designed to use your child’s crib mattress to make the transition from crib to ‘big kid bed’ much smoother. This should only be considered if your child weighs less than forty pounds since most toddler beds have a weight limit of fifty pounds and kids grow fast.
If your child is older than three and larger than forty pounds, your best choice is a twin size bed, at least until the child hits the pre-teen years. While it is not unusual for adults to sleep in twin size beds, many sleep experts are now suggesting that twin size beds just may be too small for a good night’s sleep. Once your child is about one hundred pounds and over five feet tall, you may want to seriously consider a full size bed that they can take with them when they move on to their own apartment.
2. How much space is available in the child’s room?
Before you choose a bed for your child’s room, measure the space that you have available. This is especially important if you are looking at bunk beds and all-in-one bedroom furnishing systems with loft beds above and dresser and desk beneath. The last thing you want is to bring home your child’s dream bed only to find that it doesn’t fit the space you had in mind.
If space is tight, loft beds with built-beneath shelves and drawers can be a stylish and space-saving choice. Captain’s beds, which feature a mattress platform with storage space beneath are another great space saver. Of course, there are the traditional kids’ favorite bunk beds for when you need to fit two beds into the space of one or four into the space of two. One of the most popular modern bunk bed styles features a full bed beneath and a twin bed above, which allows you to give your older child the room he or she needs to sleep comfortably. This also puts a ‘cushioned landing’ under your younger child.
3.Will your child entertain in his room?
For older children, their bedroom is far more than their sleeping space and private sanctuary, it is their living room. Chances are that your eight to eighteen year old will be ‘hanging out’ with friends in his or her bedroom. A day bed may be a good choice for the teen that often has friends over for the afternoon. If your child is a bed-sitter, you’ll also want to invest in a mattress with good side support to avoid the mattress breaking down at the sides.
For children who have frequent sleepovers you might consider a bed with a pop-up trundle bed hidden beneath. It is an easy way to expand a one-child bedroom to fit two children without permanently taking up extra floor space. This style of bed is great for a child that has sleepovers frequently
4. Invest in a good mattress and foundation.
Questions of style aside, the single most important piece of your child’s bed is the mattress and foundation. Your child will spend about a third of his life sleeping on the mattress that you choose, and the quality of that sleep will affect nearly every area of his or her life. From schoolwork to a healthy emotional life, doctors are coming to understand just how important quality sleep is to a growing child. The best thing you can do to help your child get a good night’s sleep is to invest in a high quality mattress that encourages good, deep sleep.

There are many important factors to consider when choosing a bed for your child. The most important thing to consider is how much space is available, and what type of bed is best for your child. Kid’s beds come in many varieties and styles from bunk beds to beds with storage compartments. With proper research, you will eventually find that bed you have been looking for. You and your child will be very happy especially because you know he or she will be getting a good night’s sleep.

The thought of building your own bunk bed is intimidating. Well it is! It is a rather large structure of wood with several pieces that need to be accurately measured and put together. But does it save you money? It sure does!
Finding the right furniture is hard as it is, but finding the right furniture plan? It could be a little more difficult to find the right plan to build your own bunk bed but it sure can save you some money! This guide will help you budget out how much a standard twin over twin bunk bed will cost and compare it to manufacturer’s retail price.
First of all, what are the pro’s of building your own bunk bed? Well for one, it is cheaper. But there are various other reasons. You can be as creative as you want! Mind you, being creative also means still following safety standards but you can alter the shape and size of your bunk bed to however you want. I once saw a home built bunk bed that was in an L shape with a full dresser under both bunk beds. The beds were offset to give it a great look and its uniqueness was what was appealing to me. If you have the creativity in you, why not?
Now, down to the business aspect of this. How is building a bunk bed cheaper? For sake of comparison, lets estimate that a standard twin over twin bunk bed will be somewhere around $700. Yes you can find ones cheaper, but lets say we are building one that is comparably well designed and quality built. So generally, I’ve found that you can find 2×4’s for fairly cheap. An 18 feet long 2×4 will cost you roughly $5. Ballpark estimate, I would say after cutting and purchasing all pieces of wood required, you would end up under $50-$100 depending on the different wood sizes you purchase. Keep in mind that 2×4 prices are different from 2×6, 2×12, etc. So now you’re ready to build. A cheap drill only cost you roughly $30 and screws don’t cost much either. So far, you’re at about $180. So you begin to put all the pieces together and not and realize that you may need to sand some of the parts. No problem, which is another cost that won’t dent you. Do a quick paint or a finish on the wood, and you have yourself a bunk bed.

Of course the above paragraph made it sound rather easy. It is not as easy as it sounds and also is very time consuming, but once you put in the dedication and time into it, you’ve saved yourself a lot of money! Plus, now you got yourself a bunk bed that your kids will enjoy and you have the self satisfaction that you have just built something that your kids will enjoy for quite awhile!

Let’s face it, there’s a whole host of children’s beds out there on the market, and as a parent, you might be feeling a little confused about which type of bed to choose to suit both your child’s needs and the size of their bedroom. Read on to learn about your options to help you choose.
1). Single bed without storage
Buying a single bed that does not have underneath storage (often called a truckle drawer) is probably best if your child’s bedroom is a decent size and storage is not an issue. The good thing about buying a bed without underneath storage is that these types of beds are often very attractive, without the thinly disguised, and often bulky, drawers underneath.
2). Single bed with storage
A single bed which has storage underneath is obviously good for small rooms, or for children that have lots of toys. Underneath storage provides a great space saving option, and there are plenty of styles on the market that look fab too. There are also beds that offer the option of a pull out bed in place of where the drawers would be. This is great for when children get older and are more likely to have friends sleep over.
3). Novelty beds
Novelty beds are often aimed at the very young market, for toddlers who are about to sleep in their first proper bed, rather than a cot bed. Children will normally be at an age where they would find a novelty bed shaped in a car, a fairy or a ship to be exciting! This will encourage them to stay in their own bed and not migrate into your bed, now that they are not constrained by the high bars of a cot.
4). Bunk beds
Bunk beds are the ideal choice for siblings that are close in age and share a room, or for children that are likely to have friends or cousins coming to sleep over as they get older. Bunk beds are great space savers if children share a room, and there are styles on the market that can be disconnected and made in to two single beds, which is a great option for when children get older and perhaps "grow out" of the idea of sleeping in bunkbeds. When choosing a bunk bed, make sure you pick one that is sturdy. It is sometimes better to pay a little more where bunks are concerned, to ensure that they are super sturdy. Pine bunks are often pretty solid, as are those made out of metal.
5). Midsleepers
Midsleepers are an option reminiscent of secret camps, and I’ve yet to meet a child that didn’t get excited by a midsleeper! They often come in themed style, and the high quality midsleepers are renowned for their comfortable mattresses.
Whatever the bed you choose for your child, have fun choosing it because it can make the difference between tantrums at bedtime or a smooth night’s sleep.

Many families contemplate using bunk beds for their children to alleviate a lack of space or through the request of the child. The one up one down style of bunk bed although quite an exciting venture for young children can be very dangerous; around 85% of bed accidents are sustained from bunk beds. There are many dangers parents should be aware of when purchasing a bunk bed.
The main danger with bunk beds is the ability to fall from the top bunk and injure themselves in a variety of ways; a child cannot be monitored throughout the night or for every minute that they are playing in their room so there is always a risk of a child falling from the top bunk height and hitting bedroom furniture, along with this is the risk of a child underestimating the height and jumping during playtime or a child slipping through the guardrail spacing and becoming strangled.

Although a fall alone could serious hurt a child, furniture surrounding the bunk bed can pose a further risk. Objects such as blind cords are extremely dangerous; they can easily become wrapped around a child’s neck and several deaths have occurred due to the child’s dressing gown cord wrapping around the neck during the fall. Such cases are very rare but they do raise the question of how safe our children are in bunk beds. However, bunk beds are an excellent way of construing some responsibility upon your child and as mentioned previously they are an excellent space saving device, so they shouldn’t be dismissed completely.
There are several guidelines that should be followed and communicated to your child to ensure that they operate the bunk bed like an ‘adult’, if you have more than one child include them when discussing the bunk bed rules. Although it is recommended that children under the age of six are not allowed to sleep or play on the bed, and bear in mind that even if they are supposed to be sleeping on the bottom bed they will still somehow end up in the top bunk at some point. If you do happen to have a younger child in the house it is worth purchasing a bunk bed that can be separated into two singles until the younger child is old enough to sleep on a bunk bed.
Ensure that you purchase a bunk bed that has secure guardrails that prevent a child from easily rolling off the bed, guardrails can pose a risk for strangulation therefore if there is a gap of at least 31/2 inches (89 mm) between the lower edge of the guardrails and the upper edge of the bed frame cover this with some sort of board to prevent the child slipping through.
Choose a ladder that is fixed – a ladder that has a gradient rather than being completely vertical may make it slightly easier for ascent and descent. Several things you can do at home to further increase the safety of the ladder is to purchase some sticky back rubber, available from most hardware shops, and put it on the steps and handles to give them some grip. It is also worth purchasing a night light so that during the night your child can clearly see the ladder.
Encourage safety when children are playing the bedroom; accidents often happen when a child kicks the underside of the bunk bed above resulting in it falling down on them. To prevent minimize the chance of this happening ensure there are secure slats under the mattress preventing it from falling through.
The main emphasis when buying a bunk bed is teaching your child the safe practice of using it; they need to understand the importance of safety and what can happen if they do not act in a safe manner.

Here are some tips on choosing a futon bunk bed for safety and practicality.
One thing that you can never have enough of in your kids bedroom is space and futon bunk beds can help get you more space with a cool new look.
These beds come in a cool style which has a bed on the top and a bottom piece that converts into a couch. This allows for a sitting room type of atmosphere in the bedroom but also extra room for another child to sleep over. Some of them even come with drawers on the bottom which gives you even more added storage.
These bunk beds come in a large variety of styles and materials and are the perfect way to add more space in your kids bedroom as well as offer them a bit more of a sophisticated look.
When you’re shopping for futon bunk beds, the first thing you want to think about is safety. While these beds are perfect for maximizing your space, like any other type of bunk bed, they do come with a certain amount of risk and although a lot of them have built-in safety features you probably want to be aware of the few safety issues when picking out and putting together your bunk bed.
One thing you want to be sure to do is buy your bed from someone who sells quality furniture so that you know it’ll be a good sturdy piece that will last a long time and not fall apart. Look for guard rails on the top bunk in a ladder that is attached permanently to the frame of the bed. When you get your bed home, it’s important to assemble it specifically to the instructions to be sure that it is set up properly and no accidents will happen.
Another thing to consider with your futon bed is the aesthetics. Your kids bedroom may be decorated in a certain theme or, if it isn’t you can use the bunk bed as an inspirational piece for the entire room. Either way you want to be sure to choose the right combination of fabric, pattern, and frame material. Bunk beds come in wood and metal frames in different styles so you want to pick one out that is suitable for your kids room. You can also get the mattresses and mattress covers in different designs so you should be able to find something that will match in most any room.
While many people consider a wooden futon bunk bed to be more sturdy this is not necessarily the case and a wooden bed will be more clunky and may take up more space in an already small room. The metal beds can be just as sturdy and will give the room more of a spacious feel. Of course, your first priority should be to make sure that the bed has all of the features needed for safe use.

There is no specific age that a child becomes ready to make the transition from crib to proper bed; many people estimate from around 1.5 years up to 3 years, however whenever you choose to buy your child their first bed is entirely up to you and when you feel your child is ready.
There are many child friendly beds available that can make the transition much easier. How your child sleeps at night should be a big factor in which bed you eventually choose. If your child flails around in bed then it is wise to purchase a bed that has a guard to prevent them from falling off the edge of the bed.
The biggest issue many parents find however, is that children often are scared and intimidated by sleeping in a new bed that isn’t their cot. If this is the scenario you should consider the many child friendly designs the bed manufacturing companies are designing. Silentnight has designed a range of beds specifically for young children. They come with fun headboards that will make it appear more friendly and likable for the child, and to make it even more appealing Silentnight has stitched in a secret compartment in the headboard for your child to store things. The mattresses themselves are full-sized single bed built to the highest standards. Every component keeps kids comfy and safe, from the Miracoil spring system to the rounded edges. There is also a ’sleepover’ function that allows you to separate the mattress from base turning it into two beds for when your child has sleepovers.
The bed comes in four different styles; two for boys and two for girls. Boys have the option of a rocket or football headboard and the girls have the option of toadstool or heart style; all styles which are pleasing to the eye and which will distract your child when the big transition occurs.
If you are looking to purchase a single bed for your child then check Archers Sleep Centre.

Toddler travel bed is immensely helpful for single mother. A working lady need to go for vacation travel or on official tour and now she can take her kid easily with portable travel bed without paying extra airfare
Travel Beds for Toddlers
Toddler travel beds are becoming an increasingly popular child sleep aid for parents on the go or for kids who need a little extra comfort in an unfamiliar environment.
Travel beds for toddlers serve as a safe alternative to a large, unknown sleeping area that a child may come across when staying in a hotel room during a vacation or spending the night at grandma’s house. The versatility of toddler travel bed not only extends outside of the home, but also allows children to sleep safely while in a transitional bedding phase.
A toddler travel bed is also a great way to accommodate a child who has outgrown the space of their crib, but is not yet big enough to spend their nights in a regular-sized bed. This convenient option also allows a parent to save money by bringing a travel bed into their home for a lower price rather than buying an "in-between" bed.
When it comes to choosing a proper travel bed for a toddler, there are plenty of options to consider. To provide ample airy comfort that will send your little one soaring into dreamland, there are inflatable air mattress beds that allow children to drift quietly off to sleep. I suggest that new parents should have childs portable travel bed because it helps in many ways.
Sometimes a simple cot selection will also do for your toddler, while lightweight play yards have been known to serve as a safe and fun opportunity for sleep. Below are a few suggestions regarding different types of travel beds available for toddlers:
Portable Air Bed
Many parents have experienced the ease and uniqueness of having portable travel bedding in their possession. When one is filled with air, a helpful sleep aid is created for children who are traveling on vacation, visiting a friend’s house, or would like to sleep in different parts of their own home. With raised edges (similar to a lifeboat), this bedding choice makes sure a safe night of slumber awaits your little one.
Many air mattress models come with an air pump (sometimes wireless, rechargeable, and/or hands free). Most air beds inflate in less than a minute. This option is so handy that it can even accompany toddlers on a camping trip and make taking a nap at their daycare center much more comfortable.
Peapod Travel Bed
To keep infants safe and secure, the Peapod Travel Bed is an inflatable mattress that offers a little extra in its design. Surrounded by a zipper pocket, the mattress is covered by a fold-down design that pops up and twists into a comforting shelter for your toddler. When placed into its compact position, the Peapod is easy to transport, as well as clean. The sleeping pad is washable and the entire unit can be used for both indoor and outdoor adventures.
You know where to find it – toysrus.
Additional Travel Bed Items
There are also different items on the market that allow parents to transform various bed sizes into a safe environment for a toddler to sleep in.
For example, inflatable bed rails are easy to pack and are often fashioned to fit any twin bed. For a sturdier product, there are also toddler travel bedside rails that are small enough to pack in suitcases, yet large enough to alter beds that are incompatible with the size of a toddler.
delta travel baby bed: Delta Enterprise Crib-to-Bed has innovative designs like a foldaway crib to making traveling easier, and it costs around USD 260.
Child portable travel bed is also immensely helpful for single mother. A working lady need to go for vacation travel or on official tour and now she can take her kid easily with portable travel bed without paying extra airfare.

Last time we talked about how twin-sized kids’ beds, trundle beds and bunk beds are fun options for helping your children express their personality and age. In part two of our article, we’ll go ahead and touch base on the alternative to the traditional twin-sized youth bed – futon bunks, workstation beds and updating your child’s bed into one fit for a teen with the addition of head and footboards.
Give your child the option of maximizing his space by purchasing a futon styled bunk bed. Usually, the bottom part of the bunk easily converts from a sofa into a full-sized bed with a standard twin-sized futon on the top bunk. A unique piece of bedroom furniture, futon bunks are even great for teenagers and college students. The only downside to them is that you have to remember to flip the futon every month or so, otherwise it’ll lose its firmness.
Another great alternative to children’s bedroom furniture is to find a bed that includes a workspace built on the side of the bed itself. Usually found in bunk beds, workstation beds are a great long-term investment for your child. Instead of purchasing your child’s bed and desks separately, everything can be purchased at once with this type of bed. Quite grandiose in size, I wouldn’t recommend it for small-scale bedrooms, but if you happen to have the space I say it’s a wonderful alternative. If by chance your child has enough space to spare, I suggest looking into workstation beds that also include a small closet and drawers on the side for clothing and shoes.
Once your child becomes a teen, consider making some minor changes to their kid-friendly bed without having to spend a ton of money. By adding a head and footboard to your child’s bed, the transition from a kid bed to a teen bed is immediate. Head and footboards do come sold separately for most beds; all that’s really required is some light assembly on your part. What you should keep in mind is that boy beds look better with just the headboard, while girl beds can use both the head and footboard, or the headboard alone.
As your child grows older, know that beds are meant to be a long-term investment because once they come home from college, they’ll look forward to sleeping in the same bed they’ve slept in for a good 15 years.

By stacking one bed over other bunk beds is a fantastic space saving solution that is always popular with kids. In fact the top bunk is usually so popular that you’ll have to use all your negotiating skills to decide who gets to sleep below. However, if you’re looking to try and save money on a twin bunk beds you should familiarize yourself with the pitfalls of buying cheap first – just like any other product on the market, when choosing a bunk bed you’ll have a balance between price, quality and availability.
.
One must remember safety aspects of a bunk bed before buying one and so when looking for a cheap bunk bed remember that you may be risking your child’s health – remember that one of the fun aspects of a bunk bed is its elevation, which is also a risk and a sturdy ladder and a safety rail are both of utmost importance. Bearing that in mind, bunk beds are a great option for kid’s beds, in so many different situations. They offer options that regular beds don’t, both for saving space and for making good use of space. Kids love them and they look good. And they’re functional.
Before buying a bunk bed, check its sturdiness by placing your hand on the top bed and shaking the whole piece to check if there is any movement. Make sure you get child friendly bunks. Make sure the top bunk has good railings to prevent falls; don’t buy bunks with no railings on the top. And make sure they have good solid stairs. And don’t get bunks with corner posts that stick up above the railing, kids can catch things on them and fall, or hang off them, which isn’t great. Always make sure the lighter child sleeps on the top bed. The best bunk bed to consider would be a full bed on the bottom and a twin bed on top. The wider bed below would create a better balance. Consider buying bunk beds that can be separated, because as the children grow older, the beds will be still useful. They can be used as separate beds.
In fact, instead of thinking “cheap bunk bed”, perhaps you’re better thing “bargain bunk bed” – what I mean is, instead of searching for potentially unsafe bunk you are doing you and your kid a favor if you find a high quality bunk at a discount.
.
If you are looking at buying one bunk bed like twin bunk beds at a real bargain price, then you have two options. The first is to find an online bargain because online retailers often offer quality beds at reduced prices due to their low overhead costs, since they do not have to spend on warehousing and other utilities. Low overheads mean that sellers can sell cheaply online, and still make a profit. Also because they sell more, they can buy cheap from the manufacturer benefits of which are passed on to the customer. The second options is to look at the used bunk bed market – if you make a full inspection to make sure the bed is from a reputable manufacturer and is in good condition then your saving can be huge
